What style of yoga is taught at Lotus Life?

Lotus Life Yoga Center offers a wide range of yoga instruction. Many of our teachers were educated at Kripalu, which means that Hatha Yoga is a very important part of our teaching.

In addition to Hatha, our teachers have studied Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Bikram, Jivamukti, Yogafit, Aerial Yoga and others.

Our Class Schedule page provides a listing of all of the different class types offered by LLYC. If you have any additional questions about the yoga styles offered at Lotus Life, please contact us.

Why should I preregister for a class?

Preregistering for a class ensures your spot, as it is a first-come-first-serve process. Preference will be given to students who preregistered online in classes that are over the studio capacity. Pre-registering also helps you to meet your intention of attending class. Certain classes, such as beginner classes, are typically very full.

At LLYC, we believe in quality over quantity. It’s that simple. Nobody enjoys a class in which there isn’t enough room to move freely. This means that we do limit the number of students for each class we offer. Preregistering for a class online can be done up to one week in advance, and is highly encouraged. If the class is full, students have the option of adding themselves to the waitlist.

Once the waitlist is full, the option to “Sign Up” for classes online will be removed from the LLYC “Class Schedule” page.

If I have added myself to the waitlist, how will I know if I have been registered for the class?

This is a good question, and the answer is rather simple. If someone cancels their registration for a full class, this allows the first student from the waitlist to be “bumped” into the registered students list. If this happens, the individual who has been bumped into the registered students list will receive an email telling them that they are now registered.

So, long story short: If you were on the waitlist and you get an email saying you are now registered, you’re all set. If no email arrives, our apologies, but you are still on the waitlist.

What do I wear to class?

You do not need to purchase special clothing for your yoga practice; it is most important to wear clothes that you can move freely in. Choose garments that are neither too tight (that would restrict your movement) or too loose (that may get caught or tangled as you move). Please remember that your body will likely change temperature as you practice.  Consider wearing layers that can be removed and replaced easily as you heat up in a flow, and cool down in savasana, the reclining meditation and conclusion of a yoga class.

When should I arrive for class?

It is important that classes begin on time to honor the busy schedules of our students.  Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to the beginning of your class.  If you are a new student, please plan on a few extra minutes to fill out an intake form and get to know the studio space.  Keep in mind that you may need time to stow personal belongings, set up your space with props, and perhaps use the restroom.  Early arrival ensures that you are set up and enjoying a few minutes to unwind before class begins.

What if I am late?

Life happens. If you find that you are running late and have arrived after class has begun, please respect the class in progress by waiting until after centering has finished before entering the studio. Listen for the OM or the introduction to the asana practice as your invitation to enter the studio. There will often be a staff member at the desk to help guide you into the class.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes we do. Please call (315) 314-7915 to inquire about scheduling and pricing.

What should I bring to class?

In addition to a yoga mat, you may want a small towel to whisk away sweat, and a water bottle with a secure lid to prevent spills. Lotus Life provides all students with blocks, blankets, bolsters and straps as well as eye pillows at no additional charge. If you choose to purchase your own props you are welcome to use these personal items in class.

If you forget your yoga mat, or if you don’t have one – don’t worry. LLYC provides mat rentals for $2.

I have never tried yoga, how will I know what to do in class?

Whether you are an athletic person, or if you feel intimidated by learning to move your body in new ways, it is always great to begin your yogic path with a Beginner 1 class. In Beginner 1, you will learn how to enter and exit basic postures safely with the use of proper alignment and your breath. You will learn the names of postures and simple flows that link one posture into the next.

Our teachers regularly offer variations to ensure that all students can perform the movement or posture in question. We also encourage the use of helpful props such as blankets, blocks and straps. You are in good hands at Lotus Life.
